Membership

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was formed over 60 years ago by an act of the United States Congress. As the civilian component of the United States Coast Guard, members assist with all aspects of the Coast Guard missions except law enforcement and military operations.

Does the Auxiliary sound like the place for you?

Operations is one of the better known parts of the Auxiliary mission. Safety patrols, regatta safety and search and rescue cases all are part of the Auxiliary operations program. Auxiliarists work side by side with Coast Guard and Reserve personnel to accomplish marine safety. This is what we call Team Coast Guard.

Coast Guard Auxilairists work hard to spread the word of boating safety. Public Education classes and boat show appearances are all part of the duty. Classes range from basic seamanship to advanced coastal navigation. There are even classes specifically designed for children.

Another part of boating safely is making sure that your boat has all of the safety equipment that it needs. The Coast Guard Auxiliary offers Vessel Safety Checks to any boater. We check your vessel to help you be sure that you have all of the equipment that you need based on Federal and State laws and regulations. This is a free service and we do not issue tickets or report to any agency what our findings are. This is a courtesy to assist you to be safe.

One of the most important aspects to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the element of Fellowship. It is one of the founding principles that we were formed with, which we call cornerstones. The work is important but we believe that fun and fellowship is just as important.

Opportunities abound with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Those mentioned above are only a few of the many things that can be done in Team Coast Guard. Join us. We cordially invite you to our next meeting at Coast Guard Station Burlington or drop us an e-mail.
